The Vidalia High School girls soccer team ended their first season in program history with a special sendoff Monday night — its first ever victory.

The Lady Vikings defeated Peabody, 2-1, and coach Adam Terragnoli said the win couldn’t have come at a better time.

“It was a perfect night for it — at home, senior night with everyone’s parents here,” he said. “They worked so hard all year, and it was an awesome feeling to have it pay off.”

Kelsi Cavazos ended her senior campaign with one goal to put Vidalia up at the half, 1-0. Peabody then forced a tie game early in the second half until Natina Matus added another goal for Vidalia on a free kick resulted in a handball inside the box.

Terragnoli said when the Lady Vikings secured the lead once more, every second ticking down to the end felt longer and longer.

Skylar Adams ended with six saves to aid the Vidalia defense down the stretch.

“It was about 20 minutes of solid defense,” Terragnoli said. “We were all kind of waiting for it to end, and when it did, it was a big weight off everyone’s shoulders.”

Vidalia (1-8) will also graduate Macie Seyfarth and Angel Kenney as the varsity girls end their season.

“We had 16 girls who really dedicated themselves to building this program,” Terragnoli said. “It was an amazing thing to be a part of.”

Leo Lozano and Tommy Ngo each scored two goals as the Vidalia High varsity boys soccer team defeated Peabody Monday, 6-2.

Josh Marsaw and Dom Harveston each added one goal in the win, while Bryce Johnson ended with eight saves at goalkeeper.

Vidalia (7-2) now awaits its playoff seeding to be released by the LHSAA on Wednesday.
