Good news comes with luck, skill

As we finish the first month of 2018 and enter the second, let us look at some of the good news from last week:

  • Congratulations to West Elementary teacher Geraldine Brown and assistant principal Shamekia Isaac for being named the top educators of the Natchez-Adams School District Tuesday night. Both women were pleasantly surprised when their names were called in a banquet that honored the best in teachers for the district. Other teachers who were honored were Ethel Scott from McLaurin Elementary, Zelda Argue from Frazier Elementary, Wanlia Williams from Morgantown Middle School, Toni Washington from Robert Lewis Magnet School, Chameiko Miller from Natchez Freshman Academy, Tracy Fleming from Natchez High School, LaToya Fleming from Natchez Early College Academy, Gretchen Thornton from Fallin Career and Technology Center, and Van Laurant III from Ombudsman. Congratulations to all of the teachers who continue to demonstrate excellence in the classroom. The future of our area depends on you. Thank you.
  • Terry Hill was more than pleasantly surprised when his lucky numbers came up Monday night at Magnolia Bluffs Casino in Natchez. Visiting from Baton Rouge, Hill won more than $2 million playing the Wheel of Fortune Wild Sevens progressive slot machine. Kevin Preston, president of Magnolia Bluffs, said it was the biggest win he had seen at the Natchez casino.
  • Cathedral sixth-grader Chloe Curlee used her skills as a writer rather than luck for her big win in the Mississippi Daughters of the American Revolution American history essay contest. Curlee wrote about a young girl, whose father died in the Civil War. The story won first place in the state competition. Congratulations to Curlee for her award of excellence.

Let us remember to thank those who continue to make our community great.
