VIDALIA — An arrest was made in a territory-related triple shooting that left one dead and sent two men to the hospital.
One suspect involved in an April 25 shooting, Lionel Maurice Dean, 26, 128 John Glen Ave., Natchez, was arrested Monday and has been charged with two counts of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree murder.
Dean was shot one time in the lower right chest area and was treated at an area hospital.
Derrick Smith, 20, of Vidalia was shot one time in the left chest area. Metro Ambulance Service took him to Natchez Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Duntrell R. Washington, 27, of Vidalia was also struck one time in the right shoulder and was able to drive himself to an area hospital before police arrived on the scene.
According to the arrest record at the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Dean has been transported to the Concordia Parish Correctional facility.
Eyewitness reports of the incident indicate that the shooting stemmed from a territory dispute among Vidalia residents from “uptown” and “downtown.”
“Uptown” Vidalia is on the north side of Carter Street, and reportedly ranges from the old courthouse to the river.
“Downtown” is on the south side of Carter Street, and reportedly extends from the police station on John Dale Drive to the riverfront.
Vidalia Police were unable to comment on the arrest by press time.
