NATCHEZ — An Adams County man was found dead in his front yard, a victim of an apparent homicide, Friday night after deputies responded to a 911 call.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jerry Brown said dispatch received a 911 call concerning a man who had been shot at approximately 9 p.m. Friday night.

When deputies arrived on the scene at 11 Woodman Road, Brown said they found 48-year-old Johnny Martin lying on the front yard.

Brown said it was evident Martin had suffered at least two gunshot wounds, and that the incident is being investigated as a murder.

Martin was dead at the time deputies arrived on the scene.

At this time, the investigation is still preliminary, Browns said, but evidence has been gathered from the scene.

A motive is not yet known.

Brown said though investigators currently have no suspects for the murder, the sheriff’s office has identified at least one person of interest.

Woodman Road is in the Morgantown area northeast side of Natchez.
