Prep roundup: Cathedral, ACCS boys win district openers

J.T. Taylor led Cathedral with a game-high 18 points and Ty Tobias scored 14 points as the Green Wave used a big second quarter to defeat the Central Private School Rebels 57-24 Tuesday night in the MAIS District 5-AAA opener for both teams.
Cathedral went into the second quarter trailing 9-6, only to outscore Central Private 23-5 in the second quarter for a 29-14 halftime lead.
Cathedral (7-13, 1-0) hosts Silliman Institute in a district game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
ACCS 44, Silliman Institute 38
CLINTON, La. — Josh Day scored 16 points while Dawson Parker and Julian Wilson had nine points each as the Adams County Christian School Rebels rallied for a 44-38 win over the Silliman Institute Wildcats in the MAIS District 5-AAA opener for both teams Tuesday night.
Silliman took an 8-5 lead over ACCS at the end of the first quarter, but the Rebels responded by outscoring the Wildcats in each of the final three quarters. Trey McManus led Silliman with a game-high 17 pints.
ACCS (7-5, 1-0) hosts district and cross-town rival Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Rayville 80, Vidalia 41
RAYVILLE, La. — JaMarkus Wilson finished with a game-high 17 points and Nashaun Wilson added 16 points as the Rayville High School Hornets cruised to an 80-41 win over the Vidalia High School Vikings in an LHSAA District 2-2A game Tuesday night.
Rayville scored 30 points in the first quarter while holding Vidalia to just eight points. By halftime, the Hornets held a commanding 50-19 lead.
Malachi Matthews, DeMikal McCoy and Cam’Ron Randall led the Vikings with eight points each.
Vidalia (9-9, 2-3) plays host to Beekman Charter School in district action at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
St. Frederick 61, Delta Charter 50
FERRIDAY — Kavarius Whitehead led Delta Charter School with a game-high 20 points, but it was not enough as the Storm lost to the St. Frederick Warriors 61-50 Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.
The second quarter proved to be costly for Delta Charter after taking a 19-17 lead over St. Frederick at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors outscored the Storm 14-2 for a 31-21 halftime lead.
Fabiyon Kelly scored 16 points and Freddie Mango had 10 points for the Storm.
Delta Charter (9-17, 1-6) plays at district rival Tensas High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Pearl 74, Natchez High 42
PEARL — Kadarius McIntyre led MHSAA Class 6A Pearl High School with 18 points and Devin Carter had 15 points as the Pirates took care of the Class 5A Natchez High Bulldogs 74-42 Tuesday night.
Pearl jumped out to a 21-9 lead over Natchez High after one quarter of play and the Pirates increased their lead over the Bulldogs in the second quarter on their way to a 34-14 lead at the half.
Izzy Holmes and James Singleton led the Bulldogs with eight points each, and Carrington Norman added seven points.
Natchez High (14-5) plays host to MHSAA Region 6-5A rival Brookhaven High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
