VIDALIA — Services for Lavelle Mathews, 82, of Vidalia, formerly of Greenville, who died Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, in Jonesville, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Young’s Funeral Home Vidalia Chapel with the Rev. Russell Wagoner officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mathews was a retired dental hygienist. She loved reading and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Pearlie Peeples; one son, Todd Gorden; four sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Tonya G. Tait and husband, Tracey, of Vidalia; one son, Gayle William “Bill” Gorden and wife, Penny, of Nacogdoches, Texas; one brother, George Peeples of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Jessica Martin and husband, Eugene, Trip Gorden, Preston Fletcher, Hunter Fletcher, Amber Engelkay, Austin Tait, Adriane Boyd and Olivia Tait; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Trip Gorden, Payton Highsmith, Hunter Fletcher, David Freeman, Austin Tait and Wayne Tullos.
