NATCHEZ — Voters will get the chance to offer their opinions on a recreation program on the Nov. 3 ballot.
The U.S. Justice Department has approved the addition of a non-binding referendum on recreation to the election for Adams County sheriff.
Board of Supervisors Attorney Bobby Cox said a letter he received from the justice department said there were no objections to the referendum.
Cox will now notify county election’s commissioners to include the recreation language on the ballot.
Ballots won’t be printed until after the election qualification deadline, Sept. 3.
“Everything is moving along,” Cox said.
The Justice Department had to review the referendum to verify that it did not violate the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a procedure they go through for any ballot additions.
The ballot will ask: Do you favor the creation of a consolidated countywide recreation program to be funded by a bond and/or other financial device in an amount to be determined but not to exceed $5,450,000?
