VIDALIA — The bond for a Vidalia man arrested last week after allegedly throwing acid on two children has been increased to approximately $145,000.

Johnny P. Thorpe, 254 Country Meadows Lane, is being held in the Concordia Parish Jail on a bond of $145,700.

Thorpe was arrested on Dec. 6 on three charges of aggravated battery, two counts of cruelty to a juvenile and threatening a public officer.

Thorpe also had a bench warrant out for his arrest at the time.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested the Vidalia man after Thorpe allegedly threw muriatic acid and a drain-cleaning chemical at two children and a woman in the early in the morning on Dec. 6.

Police arrived on scene after a call of disturbing the peace. The deputies said Thorpe began verbally threating officers when they entered the property.

According to officers who responded to the scene, Thorpe began “slinging” the acid after he and a woman present began arguing.

Thorpe told officers the chemicals were in his home because he used to cook methamphetamines with them.

Thorpe has prior drug charges, including an arrest in 2007 for manufacturing methamphetamines.
