NATCHEZ — The Natchez-Adams County Council on Aging needs partners in the community to help improve the lives of the community’s seniors.

Council on Aging Executive Director Sabrena Bartley said to serve hundreds of seniors each month the center needs volunteers and donations.

“We appreciate the Natchez-Adams County community,” Bartley said. “They have served these programs for a number of years and the benefits cannot be measured.

“How can you attach a dollar figure to a quality of life?”

The Natchez Senior Citizens’ Multipurpose Center’s goal is to provide area seniors with the opportunity to continue to live in their homes with the lifestyles they have grown accustomed to, Bartley said.

The center’s offerings include hot meals both delivered and served on site, adult day care, activities, literacy and other educational services, nutritional services, healthy living programs and programs on how to remain safe at home.

“The Natchez-Adams County Council on Aging is an advocate for older Americans in our area,” Bartley said. “The purpose is to offer services that benefit the elderly and to enhance their quality of life.”

Bartley said the center, which is located at 800 Washington St., has been in operation for more than 35 years.

The biggest needs are people, either financially or through volunteering, to help the center provide hot meals, transportation or another direct service in the community, Bartley said.

“That might be something in the adult day care arena,” Bartley said. “It might be teaching a person to read, or helping someone understand their prescription, or making certain they have watched their diet or seen their blood pressure.

“What we are looking for this year are partners who will help us to provide services to the seniors.”

Two big needs for volunteers in particular, Bartley said, are people who can teach the seniors to use computers and people who can help the seniors with exercises.

To donate, make checks payable to the Natchez-Adams County Council on Aging, 800 Washington St., Natchez, MS, 39120.

Bartley said volunteers are welcome to stop by from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Natchez senior center at 800 Washington St. The center’s number is 601-442-5082.

“Come by the senior center, and we will show you all we have to offer,” Bartley said.
