NATCHEZ — The time of year is near when dressing in ugly clothing suddenly becomes hip, and this Saturday, that ugly sweater hanging in the closet could even win you a prize.

The annual NACHS Christmas party will take place at Natchez residents Madison and Jason Lees’ Beau Pré residence.

The party begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m on Saturday.

NACHS board member Susan Callon has been organizing these events for the past six years.

“Every Christmas, we try to have a party that has a fun theme to it, and the theme for this year is ugly Christmas sweaters,” Callon said.

As part of the festivities, those who attend will have a chance to bid on a variety of items at a silent auction.

“We will have items from Christmas pillows … to Yeti goods,” Callon said.

Guests will also be treated to a variety of cocktail foods and hors d’oeuvres, which local caterer Theresa Mullins will help to supply.

As for the party’s theme, the dress code has more implications than just whimsical fun. At the end of the night, the partygoer with the “ugliest” sweater will walk away with some prizes.

Callon said anyone could attend the party with a $35 donation, which can be paid at the door and will go entirely to the NACHS.

Callon affectionately called humane society supporters “precious,” and said support from the community has been instrumental.

“I think everybody just appreciates that the little animals are getting support,” Callon said.

The funding helps the society to provide animals with food, medical care and shelter.

Madison Lees said she was more than happy to host this benefit for such a good cause.

“Jason and I are honored to be able to support the Natchez- (Adams County) Humane Society and their cause this holiday season,” she said.

The Lees’ house is located at 22 Club Drive.
