NATCHEZ — An error in the Wreaths Across America application forms could send wreaths meant for the Natchez National Cemetery to Baton Rouge.

Miss-Lou Veterans Coalition Coordinator J.R. Wiley said the forms distributed at the Natchez National Cemetery were unintentionally marked for Baton Rouge’s cemetery.

Wiley said he is not sure how Baton Rouge’s forms were distributed, but that residents who had picked up forms should call Wreaths Across America to make sure the honorariums are delivered correctly.

“Somehow those forms got to Natchez,” Wiley said. “We’re trying to remedy that.”

Wiley said it is important that anyone who filled out the physical form requesting a wreath on their loved one’s headstone call (877) 385-9504 to ensure that the wreath goes to Natchez.

National Wreaths Across America Day is fast approaching on Dec. 16.

The Wreaths Across America program places Christmas wreaths on the headstones of fallen soldiers in more than 1,200 cemeteries in the United States, including Arlington National Cemetery near Washington,D.C.

In Natchez, volunteers place more than 1,000 wreaths in Natchez National Cemetery. That number could grow though, with approximately 8,000 gravesites in the cemetery.
