NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies early Monday morning arrested a Natchez man on multiple drug charges. He was arrested while three young children were inside his residence.

Deputies with the sheriff office’s special operations group executed a narcotics search warrant, arresting Derrick Coleman, 39, 8 W. Woodlawn Ave., on charges of possession of schedule I marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of schedule II crack cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The search reportedly yielded 2 grams of crack cocaine, nearly 15 ounces of marijuana, $1,660 in cash and digital scales.

Coleman was already on probation for prior drug drugs, the sheriff’s office reported.

“This is a house that our office has received numerous complaints about the amount of traffic coming and going,” Sheriff Travis Patten said. “I know the good people that live around this residence will be glad that now they can enjoy the holidays with family and friends without drug dealing going on next door to them.”

Coleman’s property shares a property line with St. Peter’s Baptist Church, resulting in a church zone enhancement for all of his charges.

Shontae Clark, who was allegedly also present at the time of the bust, was not charged, but the DA’s office could indict her upon review of the case, the sheriff’s office said.
