NATCHEZ — Police are on the lookout following an alleged attempted burglary Wednesday night at a Natchez furniture store.
Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said police responded to a call at approximately 7:45 p.m. at Affordable Home Furnishings, located on John R. Junkin Drive, across from the Natchez Mall.
Armstrong said authorities had not yet identified a suspect for the alleged crime, in which someone purportedly broke into the store via the front door.
Once inside, Armstrong said, whoever broke in made their way to the back of the store where a safe is located. An attempt to break into the safe reportedly ensued but was unsuccessful.
“They did damage the safe, but they were not able to get inside of it,” Armstrong said.
Police do not believe anything was taken from the store at this time.
The police chief said investigators are unsure at this point whether one or multiple suspects are involved.
Armstrong, however, said surveillance footage both from Affordable Home Furnishings and surveillance systems of surrounding systems would be examined during the investigation.
