NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Lynnda Culpepper “Lucy” Whittington, 71, a registered nurse, who died Thursday, April 21, 2011, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2011, at Trinity Episcopal Church.
A celebration of Lynnda’s life will be at noon at Dunleith Plantation.
Mrs. Whittington was born Aug. 4, 1939, the daughter of Clyde Culpepper and Mattie Ruth Manning Culpepper. She was a graduate of Macon High School. While attending high school, she was a cheerleader, majorette, member of the high school band and track and basketball teams.
Lynnda attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, the homecoming court, the Dixie Darlings dance team and was voted Freshman Class Beauty. It was on the football field at USM that she met her future husband, USM football player Luther Alexander Whittington III. They married Jan. 9, 1961.
Lynnda filled her life with her interests in bridge, tennis, reading, cooking and her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Evans Whittington Wall and husband, Don, and their daughter, Patricia Campbell Wall, all of Baton and Paula Whittington Sansom and husband, Steve, and their sons, Steven Whittington Sansom and Arthur Alexander Sansom, all of Memphis, Tenn.; three siblings, Moody Culpepper and wife, Beth, of Vicksburg, Patricia Culpepper Schiffbauer of Lafayette, La., and Donald Culpepper of New Orleans; and dear friends, Tony Armbruster of New Orleans and Norma Matos of Baton Rouge.
The family wishes to especially thank the staff at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Dr. William Hines, Dr. Bryan Hathorn, Dr. Rene Daigle, the staff at St. Joseph’s Carpenter House and the pharmacy team at Target.
