VIDALIA — Concordia Parish Police Jurors took no action Monday on the parish’s pending waste disposal contract.

The pool of bidders has been narrowed down to three, which Vice President Joseph Parker said are the three lowest bidders among the four that submitted proposals.

The decision on which of the three will receive the contract will be announced at a special meeting held later this week, though the date of which has not yet been set.

The three remaining bidders are Waste Management, Waste Pro and Metro Service Group.

The only company which is no longer being considered is Pelican Waste, which is based in Houma, La.

Parker said jurors are waiting on more information from the three bidders before making their decision later this week.

The decision must be made before noon Friday, when the parish’s budget is due for release.

“We gave them the chance for more negotiation,” Parker said, “before we decide.”

The remaining bidders come from as far as Jackson and New Orleans.

The bids for each company were read last week.

Bids ranged from a $13.55 per-house, per-month charge to $14.95 — not considering Pelican Waste’s bid — though those numbers are subject to change pending further negotiation.

The primary difference between this and previous contracts is the addition of a bulky waste pickup service, which would haul away large items such as tree limbs, furniture or loose brush.

The bidder who is chosen this week will begin services on Jan. 1, 2018, when the current contract with Waste Pro ends.

“We’re just waiting for them to get back to us,” Parker said of the bidders. “We’re going to make a decision soon.”
