VIDALIA — The Concordia Parish Police Jury publicly read four proposals for the parish’s waste disposal contract.

The four companies submitted proposals, Metro Service Group, Pelican Waste, Waste Management and Waste Pro, offered bids for regular services and for bulky waste pickup that the jury hopes to offer residents.

Metro Service offered a rate of $14.95 per-household per-month, which totals to $67,257 monthly for the parish.

For the disposal of bulk items, Metro proposed a fee of $350 per-ton on an as-needed basis or a fee of $300 per-ton on a regularly scheduled basis.

Metro would dispose of waste in the Riverbend Environmental Landfill in Fayette.

Pelican Waste proposed a rate of $16.42 per-household per-month, totaling to $73,890 monthly.

Pelican Waste did not propose a bid on the bulky waste service alternatives.

Pelican would dispose of waste in the Tensas Parish Landfill in St. Joseph, La.

Waste Management offered a rate of $14.37 per-household per-month, which totals to $64,665 monthly for the parish.

Waste Management’s did not present a bid for bulky pickup.

Waste Management would dispose of waste in Plantation Oaks Landfill in Sibley.

Waste Pro, which held the parish’s current garbage disposal contract, offered the lowest rate of $13.55 per-household per-month, totaling to $60,975 monthly.

Waste Pro declined, however, to make a bid on the bulky waste service alternatives.

Waste Pro would continue to dispose of waste in the Tensas Parish Landfill in St. Joseph, La.

Following the presentation of each bid, jurors moved to turn the proposals over to the solid waste committee for review.

The contract will be awarded to whichever proposal jurors choose at the regular meeting on Nov. 18.

The waste collection company chosen will serve approximately 4,326 residents in Concordia Parish starting as early as Jan. 1.
