ST. JOSEPH, La. — The Sicily Island High School Tigers scored 20 points in the second quarter to pull away from Tensas High School after a slow start and cruise to a 50-6 win over the Panthers in an LHSAA District 2-1A game Friday night.
Sicily Island jumped out to an 8-0 lead with 4:23 to go in the first quarter, but Tensas scored a touchdown with 3:08 left in the quarter to make it an 8-6 game. But all it really did was wake up the visiting Tigers.
Three touchdowns in the second half and just like that the Tigers were leading 28-6 at halftime. And they didn’t slow down in the second half, scoring another 22 points.
Sicily Island (3-7, 1-6) finally got its first district win of the season and, in the process, could have helped its seeding for the Class 1A Playoffs when the bracket are revealed this weekend. The Tigers, currently No. 24 in the 1A power ratings, will be on the road in a first-round game next Friday night.
