CENTREVILLE — Stone Reynolds had nine carries for 142 yards, four touchdowns and two 2-point conversion runs as the Centreville Academy Tigers rolled to a 46-18 win over the Carroll Academy Rebels Friday night in the first round of the MAIS Class AA State Playoffs.
After a nearly 45-minute lightning delay, No. 2 seed Centreville (9-2) scored three touchdowns in the first 4:57 of the game to jump out to a 22-0 lead. Reynolds had TD runs of 51 and 21 yards, each followed by a 2-point conversion run, while Wyatt Brabham had a 12-yard TD run.
Carroll Academy (4-7), the No. 15 seed, cut into the deficit a little bit on Noah Collier’s 80-yard touchdown run with 6:13 to go in the first quarter. However, that would be as close as the Rebels would get.
The Tigers scored two touchdowns in the final 4:17 of the opening quarter on an 11-yard run by Reynolds and a 47-yard run by Daniel Vine to make it a 38-6 game.
Reynolds scored his fourth and final touchdown of the game with 5:40 left in the second quarter on an eight-yard run and Cole Lea ran in his second 2-point conversion of the game to put them up 46-6 at halftime.
The Rebels scored two touchdowns in the second half to make the final score a little more respectable. Morgan Mims had a five-yard TD run late in the third quarter and Hunter Robertson scored from three yards out with 5:24 to go.
Centreville will host the winner of the Central Holmes Christian School/Brookhaven Academy game next Friday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
