NATCHEZ — Adams County narcotics agents arrested a couple, including a woman who is 9 months pregnant, Wednesday night on drug and firearm charges.
The woman allegedly admitted to deputies that she was using drugs despite being pregnant.
“This drug is not only having an effect on our community, but on our future generations by mothers using while they are pregnant,” Special Operations Group Commander Maj. Shane Daugherty said.
Daugherty said deputies executed the warrant at 7 Shady Haven Road in Cranfield and located Jamie Ray Mathis, 39, in the front yard along with a group of people.
Daugherty said Mathis was found to be in possession of approximately 4 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 9 grams of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Inside the residence, Crystal Wilson Wheeler, 32, was found in the bedroom where suspected methamphetamine, packaging materials, scales, an allegedly stolen Kimber .45-cal. semi-automatic handgun, a loaded .22-cal. revolver, a Remington .243-cal. rifle and a Winchester 12-gauge shotgun were also recovered, Daugherty said.
In the kitchen area, Daugherty said lying on the counter agents found approximately 1 gram of suspected methamphetamine, a small amount of suspected marijuana and more packaging material.
Daugherty said Mathis and Wheeler live at the residence and allegedly admitted knowledge of all items that were located.
Wheeler and Mathis were charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute (with a handgun enhancement and violation of a church zone enhancement), possession of a stolen firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mathis is also charged with convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Travis Patten said additional charges would be presented at the grand jury.
Wheeler was released on medical recognizance due to the pregnancy. Mathis was in jail Thursday with no bond set.
