NATCHEZ — Voters seeking to cast absentee ballots in the Nov. 7 special election have just more than one week left.
In addition to being open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, the Adams County Circuit Clerk’s office will be open this Saturday and Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. until noon for absentee voters.
Nov. 4 is the last opportunity to absentee vote in person at the circuit clerk’s office, Adams County Circuit Clerk Eddie Walker said.
Mailed ballots must be received by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6. Mailed absentee ballots are required to be mailed out and returned by mail. The signature must be notarized before being mailed back.
The county will elect a county prosecutor, justice court judge for the southern district and District 5 Election Commissioner. Alma Fletcher is running unopposed for District 5 Election Commissioner.
Bryan Callaway, Shameca Collins and Scott Pintard have qualified for county prosecutor.
Danny Barber, Timothy Blalock, Jack Blaney, Eileen Mary Maher and Stanley N. “Bucky” Merritt have qualified for justice court judge of the southern district.
Two of the positions are open after former justice court judge Charlie Vess and former county prosecutor Barret Martin retired before their terms had been completed.
Walker said people who are going to be out of town on Nov. 7 for a legitimate reason should bring a government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license, when they vote absentee in person.
A legitimate reason to miss the election could be that you are away for college or out of town for work that day. Walker said if anyone had a question about what a legitimate reason might be, they could call the circuit clerk’s office at 601-446-6326.
