NATCHEZ — An 18-year-old was arrested for robbery early Monday morning after he allegedly stole $5 from a woman on East Oak Street and assaulted her with parts of a microscope.

A Natchez Police report says the suspect, John J. Evans, 18, 803 Oak St., was found with five balled-up dollar bills in his possession, which matched the victim’s description of what the suspect stole from her.

After police dispatch received the victim’s report, police looked for three men whom may have been involved in the incident.

Police found and arrested Evans while he was walking toward Martin Luther King Jr. Street at approximately 3 a.m. after the victim described the suspect’s clothes and the stolen balled-up money.

The victim reported the suspect assaulted her with a piece of a microscope, which she had with her during the incident.

Police reportedly observed scratches and bruises on the victim, which were believed to be a result of the assault.

The microscope was logged in to evidence at NPD.

Evans was arrested for robbery and threats to injure a person.

Police Chief Mike Mullins said he was unsure if the victim knew the suspect.

Evans was the only person arrested for robbery in the incident. Mullins said if other people were with Evans during the incident that they could receive the same robbery charges.
