JONESVILLE — Funeral services for Mickie Nasif Brown who died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017 in Baton Rouge will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jonesville, La., with Clyde Ray Webber officiating.
Burial will follow at Heard Cemetery in Manifest under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Born on March 5 in Monroe, La., Mickie Nasif Brown was the eldest child of the late Dr. Norman George Nasif and Marie Ellis Nasif.
She was a devoted wife, mother and daughter.
Mrs. Brown was a long-time resident of Jonesville and a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She also lived in Shreveport, La.; New Orleans and El Monsif, Lebanon. A graduate of Block High School, she attended college at Louisiana Tech, LSU, Ole Miss and Northeast Louisiana and was a member of Phi Mu sorority.
She dedicated her entire professional life to teaching, and she began her career as a public educator in Orleans Parish. She eventually made her way back to Catahoula Parish, where she became a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teacher’s society.
Founder and co-owner of Pageant World magazine, she was an active member of numerous clubs and civic organizations. These included Jonesville Jubilee Club, Catahoula Parish Garden Club, Jonesville Woman’s Club, United Daughters of the Confederacy, First Families of Mississippi, United States Daughters of 1812, Jonesville Junior Guild and Jonesville Golden Girls.
An avid gardener, she enjoyed reading, writing, watching football and playing tennis, and upon retirement, she traveled frequently with both friends and family. She will be greatly missed by her family and remembered by all those whose lives she touched.
Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her husband, Durward Edward “Dee” Brown Jr. and her parents.
Survivors include a son, Zane N. Brown; a daughter, Brittain Brown Thomas and husband, Schoeny Thomas; a brother, George Nasif; three stepsons, Durward Brown III, William Brown, and Michael Brown; a niece, Chessi Nasif; and a nephew, Naum Nasif; seven step-grandchildren and two great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be J.S. Fairbanks, Buddy Davis, Glen Tiser, Robert Lee Swayze, Craig Edwards, Jason Tiser, Burch Pierce and Kyle Neal.
Honorary pallbearers include Catherine Jones, Roxie Riggs, Margerette Tucker, Susan Bean, Myrtle Ann Collins, Mary Posey, Sue Fairbanks, Janice’ Weems, Ann Womack, Jackie Rouse, Dot Lazarus, Sue Avery, Lynda Deniger and Candy Young.
