Help paint Natchez pink Friday

If someone asked us to describe what colors are associated with Natchez, we might normally suggest bright white that colors many of the area’s historic houses and dark green that adorns a number of the window shutters on the same structures.
But on Friday, Natchez’s color will definitely be pink. We hope you’ll agree.
Although a number of organizations — from football teams wearing pink jerseys to the newspaper printing a special pink edition — have traditionally celebrated breast cancer awareness month by using pink to signify the event, this year’s effort will be different.
On Friday, thanks to Kay Ketchings, the marketing expert at Merit Health Natchez, a number of those groups and dozens of individuals and area businesses will join the hospital in an event dubbed, “Paint Natchez Pink.”
The effort is simply an attempt to highlight the importance of breast cancer awareness and prevention.
Through pink T-shirts and other pink paraphernalia, the goal is to get the attention of women or perhaps those who love those women to remember the importance of routine breast cancer screenings.
Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers facing women and through continued medical research and continued focused on early detection, it can often be among the most survivable as well, but it’s starts with awareness.
So let’s roll up our sleeves and prepare to paint Natchez pink tomorrow.
