NATCHEZ — After a month’s break, the Downtown Natchez Farmers Market is back tomorrow for its fall edition.

The market will resume Saturday, maintaining the same time and location as the summer market: 8 a.m. to noon on Commerce Street between Main and State streets.

Market coordinator Eddie Burkes said people could expect all the same elements that made the summer market a success, plus some seasonal produce.

“The people should expect … pumpkins and some winter squash,” Burkes said. “There will probably be some cucumbers as well.”

Burkes also said the market would feature okra and “a lot of greens,” as well as other produce.

Like the summer market, the fall edition will boast more than just produce for visitors to consume and enjoy.

“We’ll have the usual arts and crafts, jams, jellies (and) baked goods,” Burkes said.

The fall market has again drawn a healthy number of vendors, Burkes said, with approximately 40 committed for Saturday.

Burkes said the return of the farmers market came about only because of the success of this summer and the desire from both vendors and citizens to continue the market.

“That’s the reason we’re having a fall market, is because people enjoyed (the summer market) so much,” Burkes said.

“The fall market was somewhat of an afterthought, but after the success of the summer market, we decided to bring it back … I look for the fall market to be just as exciting and just as successful.”

Burkes thanked the sponsors of the market: Home Bank, United Mississippi Bank, City Sightseeing’s Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus Tours, the City of Natchez, the Adams County Board of Supervisors and The Natchez Democrat.

“None of this would have been possible without their support,” Burkes said.

The fall farmers market is planned to run every Saturday through Nov. 18.
