NATCHEZ — A Natchez developer has cleared land south of the Natchez city limits in hopes of catching the attention of possible buyers.

In recent weeks, Glenn Green, owner of Paul Green & Associates Realtors has been moving dirt and clearing trees on the west side of U.S. 61 South near Trinity Episcopal Day School.

At the same time, trucks are dumping dirt and gravel on the east side of the road for a Mississippi Department of Transportation project to repair part of the embankment. Green said he is not involved with the work on the east side of the U.S. 61 South.

The work on both sides of the highway has caught the attention of passersby, some wondering on social media if a new business venture is under way.

Green said he is not clearing the land for a specific project but for aesthetic purposes to draw businesses to the real estate.

“It’s so hilly that it’s been hard to interest people in locating there,” Green said. “We’re just making it to where you don’t have to use your imagination to see your business there.”

The two frontage lots are each 3.5 acres and zoned for commercial use.

Green said no one has purchased the lots yet, but he has had several businesses interested in the area.

No plans for construction are currently in place, he said.
