Despite winning its first game of the MAIS AAA State Tournament Saturday, Adams County Christian School was eliminated from postseason play after falling in its next two games.
The Lady Rebels — No. 2 seed from the South — defeated Lee Academy to get things rolling, 6-1. They then lost to Bayou Academy, 10-1, and Riverfield Academy 10-6.
ACCS’ win Saturday morning was aided by an offense that tallied 11 hits in the game, led by Savanna Spear with three hits and an RBI. Brianna Henson and Carly Delaney each had two hits, while Delaney drive in four runs.
Henson pitched all seven innings, recording nine strikeouts.
ACCS was forced into the loser’s bracket after giving up an early lead to Bayou Academy.
The Lady Rebels led after one inning, 1-0, but were then outscored for the remainder of the game.
“I don’t know what happened,” ACCS coach Tate Lipscomb said. “I thought we were going to do good, the next thing I know it just exploded. They just weren’t ready to play and couldn’t match the intensity.”
Marlee Magee led the efforts with two hits and one RBI.
Magee and Lexie Emanuel each had three hits in the loss to Riverfield Academy, but it wasn’t enough to match up. The Lady Rebels committed four errors in the game.
ACCS (21-10) ends its season, and will lose four seniors in Henson, Emanuel, Harley Martin and Baleigh Rayborn.
“It’s a great group of kids and I’m proud of each and every one of them,” Lipscomb said. “We improved from last year, so that was great. I thought we had a team that could compete for a state championship so it kind of hurts, but we had a great season.”
