The Centreville Academy Tigers will put their three-game winning streak on the line this Friday against a Brookhaven Academy team that is riding a five-game winning streak of its own.

Kickoff for Centreville Academy’s homecoming game against is set for 7 p.m. Friday.

The Tigers (4-2) are coming off a win over Bowling Green School, 42-20, in which they had nearly 400 yards of total offense, 21 first downs, no turnovers and just three penalties.

“Our offense played well again. We are getting good play from our quarterback Tyler Thomassie. Our offense is clicking,” Centreville offensive coordinator Will McNabb said.

The one thing McNabb said still needs to get better is tackling. Last week, the Tigers missed several tackles while Bowling Green ran the ball, allowing the Buccaneers to finish with nearly 200 yards on the ground.

“This is Week 7, and we still don’t tackle very well,” McNabb said.

Despite it being homecoming week, McNabb said Centreville is focused.

“Practice has been good,” he said. “We’ve had the kids’ attention so far this week. Homecoming has not been a distraction.”

Brookhaven Academy (5-1) took care of Claiborne Academy last Friday night, 45-7. The Cougars ended a 20-game losing streak and started their current winning streak — both under third-year head coach Ron Rushing — with a 41-40 comeback win at Trinity Episcopal on Aug. 25. They have scored more than 40 points in three of their five wins.

“They like to throw the ball. Coach Rushing does a good job with the passing game. They have a quarterback and receivers that can throw and catch the ball very well,” McNabb said. “Defensively, their secondary is good. They’ve got good skill players. We’re going to continue to do what we do and that’s run the ball.”

This will also be the MAIS District 4-AA opener for Centreville. The Cougars already have one district game under their belt, winning at Clinton Christian Academy on Sept. 1, 34-6.
