JONESVILLE, La. — Chase Duncan was one of five seniors on Block’s baseball team honored before the start of the Bears’ regular-season finale against Montgomery. In return, he gave the fans something to remember.

Duncan, one of the team’s co-captains, pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 Montgomery batters in a complete-game performance as Block went on to take care of the Tigers 10-0 Thursday afternoon in a District 3-1A game.

“Tonight was Senior Night and he knew it was going to be his last chance to play on his home field,” Block head coach Stevie McCarthy said. “He threw strikes. He hit his spots and he done a real good job. That’s what I was expecting from him all year. He’s going to have to carry us through the playoffs.”

Also honored were fellow co-captains Preston Bowman and Cody Herrington as well as Ryan Paulk and Trey Vault. Vault’s RBI triple highlighted a five-run rally by the Bears in the bottom of the sixth inning that put the 10-run mercy rule in effect and ended the game early.

Vault ended up going 2-for-3, as did Bears junior Vashawn Davis. Davis had the biggest hit of the game for Block with his three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning that gave the Bears a 5-0 lead.

Block finished the regular season at 11-12 overall and in third place in District 3-1A with a 4-4 record. McCarthy said his team will know next Wednesday where it will be seeded and what team it will be playing. He added that the Bears will be seeded either 27th or 28th.

“We were ranked 27th going into this game. We will have to travel if we make it,” McCarthy said.
