NATCHEZ — Services for Melvin Francis Mitchell Jr., 32, of Grand Prairie, Texas, who died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, in Grand Prairie, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at George F. West Sr. Memorial Chapel at West Gate Funeral Home with the Rev. L.J. Bell officiating.    

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, followed by a celebration of life wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Visitation will continue Saturday from 2 p.m. until service time, also at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Melvin was born Aug. 15, 1985, in Chicago, the son of Melvin Mitchell Sr. and Francine Brown-Harris.

He was a graduate of North Garland High School of Math and Science and Remington College with a medical assistant certification.

Melvin enjoyed writing poetry, listening to music, playing dominoes and having “daddy time” with his daughter.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Marquis Mitchell; one aunt, Valerie Onu-Medrano; grandfather, Francis “Doc” Brown; and grandmother, Edna Stewart.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Raudales Mitchell; one daughter, Candice Jael Mitchell; his mother and her husband, Jerry Harris Sr., and his father; three brothers, Matthew Mitchell of Chicago, Jerry Harris Jr. and wife, Nikki, of Rowlett, Texas, and Whittley Harris of Richardson, Texas; grandparents, Alfreda Brown-Butler and James Walker; father and mother-in-law, Miriam and Nain Raudales; three aunts, Diane Davis of Natchez, Pamela Nelson of Chicago, and Margarite Banks of Italy; one uncle, Francis Brown and wife, Amanda; and other relatives and friends.
