Flowers along riverfront are reminder of friend

To all of Ed Godfrey’s friends and Family, especially Will, who is a friend and competitor at our annual GHI Card tournament, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences.
This letter is to speak of “Ed the Gardener” who I knew. I always passed by his yard on the way to my mother in-law’s house and was always impressed by what a beautiful garden he grew in his front yard.
Mostly the giant coreopsis, the greenery they had always caught my eye and the flowers delighted the view when they came.
So one day Ed was in his front yard when I passed by. Stopping, I complimented his garden and the coreopsis, or cosmos as he called them, and he offered me the seeds. Those seeds Ed gave me two years ago I planted by the riverside of Silver Street.
They only came up this year, I guess due to the extremely wet summer. So if you get a chance, drive down Under-the-Hill and you can see the plants that started with Ed’s garden and think of him.
I will plant them in his honor every year from now on. So, if during the hot summer or cool fall you want to think of Ed, just pass by and take a look. They bloom in the fall.
