The MHSAA Class 3A Franklin County High School Bulldogs came up just short in their quest for their first win of the season as the Class 4A Lawrence County Cougars survived for a 19-16 double-overtime win Friday night.
Jaquan Brown scored on a 1-yard run, and Spencer Romero’s extra point tied the score 13-13 with 7:17 remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. Neither team scored in the first extra session.
In the second overtime, Franklin County was held out of the end zone and had to settle for a Romero 23-yard field goal.
Lawrence County (3-2) won the game on a 7-yard touchdown run by Kylan Cooper, his second score of the game.
Brown led the Bulldogs with 19 carries for 105 yards and went 3-for-7 passing for 25 yards and no interceptions. Hayden Herring recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown with 4:19 left in the first half, but Romero missed the extra point.
