When Vidalia High School began its 2017 campaign, head coach Dee Fairlcoth issued a challenge to offensive coordinator Mike Norris.

“I told him I wanted at least 30 points every game,” Faircloth said.

And with 34- and 32-point scoring efforts so far, Norris and the Vikings offense have lived up to the task.

Vidalia (2-0) will put its undefeated mark and scoring streak on the line when it hosts Homer at 7 p.m. today.

“All of our coaches have done an outstanding job this season,” Faircloth said. “The offense has moved the ball. The defense has played really well. In the second half against Delhi (last week), the kids really hit hard, and they punished those Delhi running backs. That was something I liked. They looked like old Viking defenses from the past.”

Faircloth said his defense will again have its work cut out for them as they host a Homer (1-1) team that is littered with talented playmakers.

“They’ve always had outstanding athletes,” he said. “They’ve been a power in North Louisiana for years. They’ve got an outstanding quarterback, running back and receiver. They’ve always played us tough.”

Faircloth said a key tonight will be getting off to a strong start.

“We are going to have to get after it from the word go,” he said. “We’ve been a slow-starting team so far. It seems we have to get on the canvas before we realize we’re in a fight.”
