If Sicily Island coach Donald Money got anything out of last week’s win over Block, 28-22, it’s that his team can fight.

Landrell James rushed in the winning touchdown with just 6 seconds remaining after the Tigers had a touchdown called back within the final minute.

“I felt like there were several adversities we had to overcome,” Money said. “They were really fighting hard through the game.”

Money is hoping Sicily Island (1-1) can continue its momentum this week as they host LaSalle at 7 p.m. Friday.

While the Tigers are experiencing low numbers this year, Money said LaSalle is similar in nature.

“They might have more players, but I think they are in a rebuilding year like we are,” he said. “I think it’s a good matchup.

“You can practice against each other, but it’s not nearly as beneficial as playing another team. In every game we play they are learning and growing.”

Money also said he is especially hoping to learn from last week’s mistakes.

“We had over 100 yards of penalties and fumbled three or four times,” he said. “We just don’t have a lot of depth. We have to clean that up.”

On a positive note, Money said he is looking forward to seeing what else James can accomplish. Last week, he ended with three rushing touchdowns in his team’s more than 350 yards on the ground.

“He’s fast and a fearless runner. He will take a chance and get right through,” Money said. “He’s a courageous little one.”
