First Presbyterian men are at it again Friday
Published 11:48 pm Monday, September 11, 2017
Attention, Natchez. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday at my house at 91 Providence Road, the First Presbyterian Church men are on a mission — cooking for a cause! Take a back seat ladies. All the famous chefs have been men — who never heard of Julius Child and Martin Stewart?
lt’s $20 per person, all of which goes to our church’s mission program! Haiti, Brazil, Mexico and eight local charities. Ladies — chill out, sit back and enjoy. Ron Miller and Lane Feltus are in charge of desserts, Kinney Carlton’s signature catfish is, by design, at the end of the row and my son, Howard, will be cooking lamb chops. This is just a few hints of what we will serve! But it’s not be just red meat — salads, baked beans and more will also be available.
Children are encouraged to attend. The donkeys are looking forward to their presence, and l have a mysterious competition for them.
Valet parking! You’ll “probably” get to go home in the vehicle you came in!
Natchezians are slim and health conscious. Come on — chill out. One night, forget about calories and cholesterol. I don’t think they are mentioned in the Book of Leviticus.
Take out is welcomed. Tickets can be purchased at the door (if we had a door) or call Sherry Jones at 601-442-3091, Catherine Ratclifle at 601-443-7444 or the First Presbyterian Church at 601-442-2581 to purchase tickets ahead of time. You will have ample time to come visit and then go to your hometown football games!
This event is dedicated to Ed Godfrey, who started it in our church gymnasium and has been instrumental in keeping it going for many years. Get well, Ed, we need you next year!
Lee Jones is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Natchez.
