Tristan Weatherly threw two of his three touchdown passes in the second half as the Vidalia High School Vikings pulled away for a 32-8 win over the Delhi High School Bears Friday night.
Weatherly had scoring passes of 19 yards to Tyran Lyons in the third quarter and 16 yards to Devonte Loyd in the fourth quarter. Weatherly completed 17 of 32 passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns.
“Just did a fine job. We dropped some passes that we could’ve caught. We had a couple of touchdowns that were overthrown. But the offense moved the ball well,” Vidalia head coach Dee Faircloth said.
Devin Green led the Vikings’ running game with 22 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns — both in the first quarter.
“Devin’s a tough rascal. He’s only 5-3. We call him ‘Mighty Mouse,’” Faircloth said.
Faircloth said that the defense really stepped up in the second half after giving up a long touchdown pass early in the second quarter.
“Defense did a hell of a job. We got some big hits on them. They’ve got a lot of skill people. Two 6-foot-6 receivers didn’t help, either. One of the defensive backs that tried to cover was 5-foot-4,” Faircloth said.
After back-to-back road games to start the season, Faircloth said he knows his players will finally be glad to play at home next week.
“I was pleased with their effort. It was a good team effort. It’s on to Homer now at home,” he said.
Vidalia (2-0) will play host to Homer High School at 7 p.m. next Friday.
