VIDALIA — Services for Joseph “Joe” Richard Houghton, 69, of Vidalia, who died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, in Alexandria, La., will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Vidalia First Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Wagoner officiating.
Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery in Clayton under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.
Joe was born on Nov. 3, 1947, in Ferriday, the son of Fred and Blanche Houghton. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. Joe had an undying love for his family, friends and the outdoors. He always believed the best way to speak with God was to stand in His creation, which explained his love for the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Hunter Hewitt; one brother, Harold Dix Houghton; and one nephew, Robert Stanley.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Paul Houghton and wife, Hahn, of Houston, and Tim Houghton and fiancée, Stephanie Wagoner, of Clayton; one daughter, Kristi Whitehead and husband, Jesse, of Vidalia; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Alex, Hailey, Ashtin, Lexi, Lauren, Amy and Austin; seven great-grandchildren, Patten, Weston, Wyatt, Bella, Braden, Dakota and Piper; one brother, Jerry Houghton and wife, Vickie, of Sicily Island; two sisters, Joy Houghton White and husband, Doonie, of Roxie, and Jan Houghton Smith and husband, William, of Deville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Stony Houghton, Corey Houghton, Chad Houghton, Jason Stanley, Blair Armstrong and Joseph Armstrong.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Eddy Houghton, Blake Stanley, Sessions Vestal and Jeremy Houghton.
