FERRIDAY — Services for Ray Pickens, 82, of Ferriday, who died Monday, April 18, 2011, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Ferriday with the Rev. Wayne Gray and the Rev. Roger Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Pickens was born Oct. 19, 1928, in Ecru, the son of Samuel Fred Pickens and Sudie Floyd Pickens. He retired as the owner and operator of Pickens Lumber Company.

Mr. Pickens was a member of First Baptist Church of Ferriday.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Maxine Pickens; one daughter, Melba Jean Buckles; his parents; four brothers, Voyce, Troy, James and Curtis Pickens; and infant sister, Melbalene Pickens.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue Hays and husband, Owen, of Natchez and Carol Zaricor and husband, Keith, of Hewitt, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kathy Bean, Donna Rae and Jacob Alexander, Derek Jones, Courtney Jones, McKenzie Jones and Chloe Zaricor; and three great-grandchildren, Brady Bean, Anna Kate Bean and Maddy Claire Bean.

Pallbearers will be Bill Burley, Billy Cliburn, Charles Sibley, Frankie Graves, Michael Burley, Robert Sibley, Sidney Champion and Sidney Lee Champion.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Huey Moak, Bill Colvin, Glenn Petty and Jack Adams.
