MEADVILLE — Franklin County saw a four-run lead go away by the top of the seventh inning, but KeKe Collins scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the Lady Bulldogs defeated St. Aloysius 7-6 Monday night in their regular-season finale.
The Lady Flashes scored the game’s first run in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Bulldogs took command with a three-run rally in the bottom of the first and, after scoring twice in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead, appeared ready to put the game away.
However, St. Aloysius had a response of its own with one run in the top of the fifth and again in the top of the sixth. The Lady Flashes scored two runs in the top of the seventh to make it a 6-6 ball game.
Then in the bottom of the seventh, Collins hit a leadoff triple. With one out, Mildred Starks hit a pop-up to first base. The first baseman tipped it and the second baseman ended up catching it. But on the tip, Collins ran for home plate and made it in safely.
Collins ended up hitting two triples in the game while Lay Lay Griffin had a big game at the plate by going 4-for-4 with a double. Allison Hauer also stepped up as she went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
St. Aloysius was led by Haley Heggins, who was 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Mallory McGuffee, who went 3-for-5.
Next up for Franklin County (11-10-2) will be the first round of the MHSAA Class 3A South State Playoffs, which start April 29.
