Centreville Academy to travel to Oak Forest

Coming off last week’s 36-6 win over rival Wilkinson County Christian Academy, the Centreville Academy Tigers will hit the road Friday to take on the Oak Forest Academy Yellow Jackets.
Kickoff between the MAIS Class AA Tigers and the MAIS Class AAAA Yellow Jackets is set for 7 p.m.
Both teams enter this week 1-0 after Oak Forest beat the Copiah Academy Colonels on the road last Friday, 34-6.
Despite its first-week win, Centreville head coach Bill Hurst said there is still room for improvement on both sides of the ball.
“We’re looking at all aspects of the game — run blocking, pass blocking. We’ve got a lot of things to work on offensively,” Hurst said. “Defensively, we’ve got to do a better job tackling and getting off the blocks.”
The Tigers’ running game, led by Daniel Vine, racked up 234 yards and four of the team’s five touchdowns in Week 1. Vine ended with two scores.
Tyler Thomassie added a score on a touchdown pass to Stone Reynolds, but could now have his hands full with an Oak Forest defense that had five sacks and forced one turnover last week.
Hurst said the biggest challenge that Oak Forest presents is their speed, power and depth. “They’re well-coached in all aspects. Their defense looks really strong to me,” he said.
“Oak Forest is a traditional powerhouse. They’ve got lots of depth. That’s a big problem for us.”
The Yellow Jackets’ offense gained more than 100 yards passing from senior quarterback Brad Lamonte to go along with 240 total rushing yards and five touchdowns — three by Trent Smith last week.
