NATCHEZ — Two Natchez men were shot with non-life threatening injuries early Sunday morning outside a Franklin Street club.
Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said at approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday, two men at Talk of the Town, also known as Sipes, located at 49 East Franklin St., were involved in a physical altercation that allegedly started inside the club.
At least one gun was pulled outside the club. One of the victims attempted to separate the two just before shots were fired. When shots were fired, the victim took off running and noticed he had been shot in the right bicep.
A second victim ran when he heard shots fired. As the victim was running away, he was reportedly shot in the right calf muscle.
Armstrong said the two victims were treated and released from Merit Health.
In the last month, this is the third report of shots being fired at the club, Armstrong said. In one incident on July 29, four bullets struck a vehicle occupied by two people. They were not injured.
Another call of shots fired was reported at the location on Aug. 12 but when police arrived, people on the scene would not cooperate with police.
The incident on Sunday was the third.
Armstrong said calls at this location including aggravated assault, armed robberies and fights have been occurring since 2009.
“I think it is time that we take a very hard look at what is going on, and whether or not they have adequate security if they have any at all,” Armstrong said. “If there is security in place, it has not been working well as we have had three major incidents in a short period of time. It is time for (the owners) them to do something different.”
In the latest incident, Armstrong said it is fortunate no one was killed.
“Anytime someone starts firing in a public place everyone there’s life is in jeopardy,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong said he asked anyone with information, no matter how small they might think it is, to give police a call at 911.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
