NATCHEZ — Natchez aldermen decided Tuesday not to extend the city’s contract with Waste Pro, and instead will seek new proposals for waste collection services.
City attorney Bob Latham said at Tuesday’s regular meeting that the current contract’s term is scheduled to end Nov. 30, and the city must notify Waste Pro of the intent to terminate the contract before Sept. 1.
“If the board will authorize me to write a contract to terminate, we could get that in copy so we can move forward with the request for proposal for a new garbage contract,” Latham said during his report.
The board voted unanimously to approve Latham’s request.
Latham said the city entered into the agreement in July 2013 and had the option to renew the contract on an annual basis after July 2015.
