NATCHEZ — Adams County awarded a contract Wednesday to Camo Construction for repair of a 30- to 40-foot erosion slide on Martin Luther King Jr. Road.
The slide has caused one lane of the road to be closed in the Anna’s Bottom area of northern Adams County.
The contract is for approximately $182,000, Adams County Board of Supervisors President Mike Lazarus said. The engineer’s estimate for the slide in 2015 was $170,000, but that estimate was conducted before the rainfall this year made the slide worse.
Lazarus said Camo Construction has 20 days to complete the repairs.
The United States Department of Agriculture’s Emergency Watershed Project will fund the project. In February, the county sought emergency funding and was able to confirm in June that the money would be available.
The county received word of the funding after Lazarus reached out to representatives in the office of U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and sent Cochran’s staff photographs of the damage.
The photos ended up circulating at the offices of the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and funding was received shortly after that development, Lazarus said.
