NATCHEZ — The City of Natchez plans to officially swear in its new police chief Monday in the City Council Chambers on Pearl Street.
Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell said Walter Armstrong would be approved and sworn in at a 4 p.m. special call meeting. Grennell and aldermen had reportedly agreed unanimously on Armstrong July 20, but a vote on Monday would make the appointment official.
Grennell also said the public would get a chance to meet their new chief face-to-face. Following the meeting, a meet-and-greet reception will take place 5 p.m. at the Natchez Convention Center.
Armstrong headed the Vicksburg Police Department for eight years before being replaced early July for what he called “100 percent political reasons.” Armstrong served as a state trooper for 25 years prior to his stint as VPD chief.
