FERRIDAY — Services for Hal “Jake” Skipper Jr., 82, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, July 22, 2017, in Ferriday, will be 1 p.m. today at Ambassadors Outreach Center in Ferriday with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Mr. Skipper was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Canebrake, La., the son of Hal Skipper Sr. and Bertha Diggins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Robert, Clarence, Eugene and Red Sipper and Willie Shaw; and one sister, Margaret Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Augustine Skipper; nine children, Betty J. Hamilton and husband, Joe, of Fayetteville, N.C., Shirley Skipper Smith and husband, Kevin, and Gregory Skipper, all of New Orleans, Debra Skipper Park and husband, Alton, Hal A. Skipper of Alexandria, La., Karen Fields and husband, Michael, of Reserve, La., Jimmy Whitley of Jonesville, John Williams of Houston, and Debra Franklin and husband, Leon, of Ponchatoula, La.; five sisters, Frankie L. Brown and Ruby Lee Skipper of Ferriday, Jenny Skipper and Ida Roby of Baton Rouge, and Annie Robert Evans of Chicago; one brother, Winfred Jackson of Detroit; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
