As fall busyness begins to kick in, the Miss-Lou is keeping up.

Last week was a full one, one full of good news too.

Let’s review a few of the good headlines we saw last week.

-More than 700 people attended the United Way Jambalaya Cook-Off at the Natchez Convention Center. Those partaking of homemade dishes were also donating to the United Way. The money raised from the event will go to 16 local non-profit agencies.

-Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal made Concordia Parish $1.27 million richer last week. The governor was in town to deliver a check that included $470,414 for storm recovery from hurricanes Gustav and Ike and $491,915 for hazard mitigation. The check also included $250,000 for water improvement in the Town of Ferriday, $35,000 to the City of Vidalia to repair an electrical transformer and $25,000 to the Village of Ridgecrest for sewer repairs.

-Enrollment numbers are up slightly in the parish, something that came as a surprise in a down economy. Instead of seeing residents leave town to find work elsewhere, Concordia has seen a bit of an increase in students. The news reflects well on the parish and means more state funds for the schools.

-And finally, the week closed with the sixth annual Bowie Knife Show and a casting call for “The story of Bonnie and Clyde,” a documentary set to be filmed in Natchez. Both events were fun for locals and gave visitors another reason to come to our town.

We know the coming week will bring just as much fun and good news across the Miss-Lou.
