NATCHEZ — Two dogs died in Adams County over the weekend after apparently being poisoned.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lt. Cal Green said one of the dogs had a seizure and subsequently died Friday. Saturday, when the complainant’s second dog was having what appeared to be similar seizures, the Kingston Road resident called the sheriff’s office.
Green said the dog, a lab and boxer mix, was taken to Natchez Veterinary Clinic for treatment, where the veterinarian indicated the dog was likely poisoned. Green said doctors could not immediately identify the type of poison.
Green said samples would be sent to the state crime lab to determine what happened.
The sheriff’s office has not found any indication of who allegedly poisoned the dogs.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
Anyone convicted of poisoning an animal can be imprisoned in a penitentiary for up to three years, in the county jail for up to a year and a fine not exceeding $500.
