As we begin to dry out from Tropical Storm Cindy’s rains, let us take a look back at some of the good things that happened last week:

• Members of the local E911 commission and local emergency responders paid tribute to Bryant Adams Friday afternoon. The room in which the dispatchers of the consolidated city-county E911 services work was named after Bryant, who served as president of the E991 board when he died in 2013. Those who attended the ceremony Friday spoke of how they wished Adams could have seen how his passion and dream of bringing the two governments together finally came to fruition. Thanks to Adams’ vision, the city and county have taken one small step toward consolidation of other services.
• A group of local medical professionals continues to build God’s kingdom by offering their services and professional help to those in need in Haiti. Local doctor Chuck Borum and retired nurse Judy Moody recently took a mission trip to Haiti to attend to and minister to residents of the earthquake-ravaged country. The doctors, nurses and other professionals treated everything from coughs and joint pain to parasites and diseases. At the same time a vacation Bible school was conducted that served more than 100 children. Thanks to all who traveled to provide both medical and spiritual care to those in need.
• A number of Vidalia police officers received advanced training for detecting possible drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Not required by the state, the officers attended Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement classes to get the latest information about how to identify drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Thanks to the Vidalia Police Department for providing training that could help save lives and keep local drivers safe.
