Dantrieze Scott and Dare Rosenthal have been playing football together since they were 5 years old.
They plan on playing alongside each other a few more years.
The Ferriday High School duo committed Saturday to LSU.
“It feels good,” Scott said. “LSU feels like home. They have a good coaching staff, and it just feels good that all my hard work is paying off, but I’m not finished yet.”
Scott chose the Tigers over interest from Ole Miss, Mississippi State and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
This past year, the 6-foot-4, 220 pounder tallied 32 catches offensively for 531 yards and three touchdowns in helping lead the Trojans to an LHSAA Class 2A quarterfinals appearance. Defensively, Scott was equally effective tallying 28 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
Scott said LSU is recruiting him as a pass rusher.
“(Rosenthal) is like my real brother,” he said. “We’re always together.”
The 6-foot-7, 320-pound Rosenthal chose LSU over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Texas and many more.
“This is big time,” Ferriday coach Stanley Smith said. “This will open the door for the younger guys (at Ferriday) that have college potential. They’re putting the work in and are committed to doing what it takes to be great.”
Recruiting service 247Sports ranks Rosenthal as the No. 162 player in the country for the 2018 recruiting class. He is projected to play either offensive tackle or defensive tackle at the collegiate level. Rosenthal registered 42 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, seven sacks and blocked three kicks this past season for the Trojans. He was named an LHSAA Class 2-2A First-Team All District member as an offensive tackle.
“They have the talent and they’ve put the time in,” Smith said. “They have a ways to go as far as getting their technique down, but the athleticism, size and speed is all there.”
