Good news ushers in summertime

With summer in full swing, let us pause to reflect on some of the highlights from last week:
–Joseph Harris knows that creative thinking is not just for art class. The Trinity Episcopal Day School graduate was named the school’s 2017 STAR student. Harris selected the school’s art teacher Susannah Heatherly as his STAR teacher, because of her talents and character. Heatherly said Harris not only excelled in art but also used his imagination and creative skills to meet whatever challenges came his way. We know the same skills will lead Harris to success in college and beyond.
-Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten was sworn in Wednesday as the president of the Mississippi chapter of the National Order of Black Law Enforcement Executives. Patten said he accepted the appointment to put Adams County in a leadership position and to be the voice of reason for the state and the nation. Patten also said he will push for unity in the community and country — leadership goals that are definitely needed in this time of polarization and division.
-Aisha Sanders was also sworn in as Adams County’s interim prosecuting attorney. Sanders’ appointment by the board of supervisors comes after Barrett Martin retired after 33 years in office. Martin said Sanders is an exceptional young attorney who has the skills and natural abilities necessary for the job. Sanders said she looks forward to seeing the law from the prosecutor’s viewpoint. Sanders said she does not plan to run for the position in the November special election, but might do so in the future. Congratulations to Sanders on this new chapter in her career.
As we enter a new week, let us remember to always be on the look out for good things in our community.
