If you drive down Rainbow Street in Natchez, it’s not hard to pick out which home belongs to the artist. Filling Lloyd Farris’ front, side and back yard is a variety of art made of metal.

Farris specializes in making bottle trees, address signs, metal swings, planters, baskets, lanterns, arches and rocking chairs all made of metal. He also takes special orders.

“If someone can draw what they want, I can make it for them,” Farris said.

Farris has been making iron art for more than 30 years and has been welding for more than 50 years, working for a variety of companies as a mechanic and welder.

Now his work is based out of a barn he built next to his house. In it, he has every tool he needs to make his art.

“I love to work with metal,” Farris said, “I can do things that other people cannot do.”

Farris works about eight hours a day on his art, which he sells by word of mouth and at various events. The next event at which he will be selling his work is the Copper Magnolia Festival at Historic Jefferson College on Sept. 12, and after that he will set up a booth at the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race.
